Latest advice from the ATO on GST during ongoing court hearings

We’ve asked the ATO about the court challenge discussed in the media over recent days and they referred us to their website where they are providing answers to issues raised by the community: https://www.ato.gov.au/business/gst/in-detail/managing-gst-in-your-business/general-guides/providing-taxi-travel-services-through-ride-sourcing-and-your-tax-obligations/?page=1#Drivers There’s now an updated question and answer about the court challenge and what it means for drivers - The ATO advice is being challenged in court. Does the challenge change anything that the ATO expects drivers should do? Taxpayers often challenge the Commissioner’s view but this does not affect our continued administration of the GST law. Similarly, current legal proceedings do also not change the Commissioner’s view on our published guidance, therefore the ATO will continue to support and advise impacted drivers on how to demonstrate their compliance with the law and the ATO position.
